After failing to move out of the relegation zone since the start of the current Rwanda Premier League (RPL) season, AS Muhanga coach Moussa Gatera says the club needs new players when the transfer window opens ahead of the second round.
AS Muhanga sit second from bottom after 14 matches, with 12 points. Gatera said the squad must be strengthened if the club is to stay in the top division at the end of the season.
"It is time to bring in new players if we are to compete better in the second round,” Gatera said. "We are identifying the areas that need strengthening and the players we can bring in.”
AS Muhanga have drawn two and lost three of their last five matches. Gatera said additions are needed to help the team avoid relegation to the second division.
"There are gaps in the squad, but we are not talking about bringing in 10 or 20 players,” he said. "We need improvements, especially in attack. We currently have one striker, but he only played one match before getting injured.”
The January 2026 transfer window, the league’s second registration period, will open on Saturday, January 3, and close on January 31.
Gatera said the club is focused on signing experienced players in key positions to improve results.
"Our aim is to keep AS Muhanga in the first division, and it is achievable,” he said. "We need a strong, experienced defender and midfielders who can support the attack and help us score more goals.”
So far this season, AS Muhanga have won three matches, drawn three and lost eight, leaving them in the relegation zone.
The club returns to action on January 4, 2026, when they host Rayon Sports.
