KCC holds its ground on schools’ hygiene

Kigali City Council has revealed that it will not allow schools that have not fulfilled the minimum hygienic standards to open for the new school term. Speaking in Kagugu, the Vice Mayor in charge of Social Affairs in KCC, Jean d’ Arc Gakuba, made it clear that all schools put in the ‘Red’  category by the city authorities, will not be allowed to reopen for the next academic year that begins in February if they fail to meet the requirements.

Kigali City Council has revealed that it will not allow schools that have not fulfilled the minimum hygienic standards to open for the new school term.

Speaking in Kagugu, the Vice Mayor in charge of Social Affairs in KCC, Jean d’ Arc Gakuba, made it clear that all schools put in the ‘Red’  category by the city authorities, will not be allowed to reopen for the next academic year that begins in February if they fail to meet the requirements.

The schools in the red category include; Groupe Scolaire APERWA, College de Mwendo, APACE Kabusunzu, and ESSA Nyarugunga.

Others are Collège Ingenzi, Groupe Scolaire Kimisange and ESA Gikondo and King David Academy.

Gakuba made the remarks at College Amis des Enfants in Kagugu, while announcing the removal of the school from the ‘Red” list.

Accompanied by Gasabo vice Mayor in charge of Social affairs, and the Director of Education, Gakuba inspected the school’s Laboratory, computer laboratory, Dormitories, Toilets, bathrooms, kitchen, Dining hall  and school garden.

The school’s Director, Charles Muhayimana, thanked KCC for the decision taken on his school and promised to improve on the standards.

"I am very glad to receive a positive response from KCC towards our efforts and commitment of correcting where it was not going well, and we are going to keep on improving to be among the best.”
