The war against Genocide ideology must involve everyone

Editor,

If the Chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Unity, Human Rights and the Fight against Genocide, Evariste Kalisa, is to believed, we still have huge issues with genocide ideology in this nation. What is especially worrying is the fact that families, which should be the cornerstone of the fight against this ideology, are involved in this.

The week-long parliamentary retreat which drew members of both chambers as well as external discussants, must assess the progress of unity and reconciliation and find out how  to uproot the Genocide ideology from society is tasked with finding ways of moving forward, .

I think the parliamentary group is on the right path when they realize, unlike thier previous strategy where they used MPs to eliminate the ideology in schools, they now intend to use the larger body of civil society like local leaders, the media and the churches to deal with this problem.

In fact, I’m wondering why they hadn’t thought of such a plan years back. The only way that this problem will be solved is if every single right-minded Rwandan takes a personal stake in this problem.

Our politicians can’t do everything for us; we must take ownership of this issue.
