Kayonza gets interim leaders in wake of high-profile dismissals

Fred Hategekimana has been appointed interim mayor of Kayonza District following Sunday's dismissal of the executive committee over poor service delivery and failure of responding to dry spells.

Hategekimana will lead the district alongside Jules Higiro, who will serve as interim vice mayor. They were appointed by the Minister of Local Government, Dominique Habimana.

Hategekimana has been the Executive Secretary of Nyagatare District having also previously worked at Kayonza district. On his part, Higiro has been the acting Advisor to the Minister of State at the Ministry of Local Government.

John Bosco Nyemazi, who was the mayor of the district, was dismissed by the District Advisory Council on Sunday, along with his deputies, Hope Munganyinka, Vice Mayor in charge of Economic Development, and Jean Damascene Harelimana, in charge of Social Affairs, over poor service delivery.
