Campaigns for candidates interested in running for vacant seats in Sector Advisory Councils of the districts of Nyarugenge and Gasabo end today. Nine candidates vying for seats in a by-election that marks an initial step of formally replacing the Mayors who resigned from these respective districts have been combing various areas in Kigali hoping to be chosen as the suitable leader. But who are these people, most locals cant help ask. The New Times Nasra Bishumba brings you the details of these candidates.

Apollo Munanura:

Born in 1976, Munanura is single  and is the only male contesting for Councillorship on the advisory council of Kimironko Sector. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources Management  from Uganda’s Makerere University and a Master’s degree in Public Administration from the University of Port Elizabeth in South Africa.

Munanura’s vast experience ranges in different sectors but notable among them is a two year stint as a Lecturer in the department of Economics and Business at Kigali Institute of Education (KIE). He also served as the Cordinator at Rukira district of former Kibungo Province.

He is currently working at the Rwanda Development Board as a Director of the Skills Development department.

Sarafina Flavia:

33 year old Sarafina Flavia is vying for the  Councillorship on the advisory council of Kimironko Sector. She holds a degree in Journalism and Communcation from the National University of Rwanda.

She worked as a newscaster for Radio Rwanda 2001/2002 before being transferred to Byumba where she worked as a Correspondent for the same radio for three years.

She also worked as Chief Editor for the same radio before moving to the Ministry of Public Service and labor where she currently works as a Public  Relations and Communications Officer. 

Emeritha Nyirabizimana:

Armed with a degree in development planning from Cameroon’s the Pan African Institute of Development and a Master’s degree in Economic and Social development done in Belgium, Nyirabizimana is also contesting for Councillorship on the advisory council of Kimironko Sector.

Born in 1970, Nyirabizimana is married and worked for the Population Movement Federation (FMP) for a period of four years (2003 to 2007)  before moving to Caritas Byumba in 2008.

Francine Mukantwali:

She has worked with children and women, having been the Headmistress of Groupe Scolaire Camp Kanombe and a Cordinator of the National Council for Women in Kicukiro district for five years. Born in 1973 and married, Mukantwali holds a Degree in Sociology from the Independent University of Kigali (ULK) and is contesting for Councillorship on the advisory council of Kimironko Sector.

Claudine Mukakibibi:

A trained teacher and with vast experience in Insurance, Mukakibibi hopes to win herself votes for the the posititon of Councillorship  in Kimironko sector.

Born in 1968, Mukakibibi was trained to be a teacher at Primary Teaching Training College of Mubuga and has been an employee of SONARWA since late 1994.

She holds a degree in Sociology from the Independent University of Kigali (ULK) and is currently working as the Head of Procurement and property department in SONARWA.

Felix Masengesho:

For someone who vying for a seat in public office and says his English is good, Masengesho’s biography leaves a lot to be desired; confusing, badly written and with wrong English and misspelt words taking precedence.

Masengesho is contesting for the Councillorship on the advisory council of Nyarugenge.

Masengesho has a degree in Sociology and has worked for Caritas, Kabgayi and doen research work for IMPACT- Rwanda and PSI on HIV/AIDS.

Isaac Munyakazi:

Born in 1970, Munyakazi holds a bachelor’s degree in Education from the International Islamic University in Uganda and a Master’s degree in Business Administration at Kampala International University, Uganda. Munyakazi is contesting for the Councillorship on the advisory council of Nyarugenge.

Munyakazi was formerly appointed by the Cabinet to the Board of the National Curriculum and Development Center.

Munyakazi is currently working as the Deputy Director in Charge of administration and Public Relations in the Office of Jumelage Rhenanie Palatinat.

Edward Ndayisaba:

With a degree in Business Management and administration from Cambridge International College and and Advanced Diploma in Physiotherapy from Kigali Institute of Management (KHI), 33 year old Ndayisaba is a Board Member of Muhima Hospital and is vying for the Councillorship on the advisory council of Nyarugenge.

Ndayisaba is currently the Director of Construction and Renewable Energy Technologies (CRET- SARL).

Martin Ruvugabigwi:

The youngest of the eight contestants, Ruvugabigwi is only 26 years old and is contesting for the Councillorship on the advisory council of Nyarugenge.

A Kigali Institute of Science and Technology (KIST) graduate, Ruvugabigwi is an active member of youth organisations advocating for growth and development and representing Rwanda in South Africa, China and Nairobi on different occassions.

He currently is an Executive Committee member of the East African Youth Organisation, where he represents Rwanda. He is also a delegate of the Global Youth Parliament.

Ruvugabigwi is currently working with Plessey, Leadcom and I Engeneering in the construction of TIGO and MTN towers.

Nzamu Nyundo:

Born 1969, Nyundo holds a degree in Law from the Independent University of Kigali (ULK) and has worked as a coodinator for the Kivugiza sector for the 2007/2008 period. He was also a Youth representative of Gastata Sector during the 1996/97 period.
