Sudanese club Al Ahly S.C. Wad Medina, which is among those that had recently requested to join the Rwanda Premier League 2025/26 season, has reconsidered its decision and will no longer participate, Rwanda Football Association (FERWAFA) has announced.

The club was among two others Al-Hilal SC Omdurman and Al-Merrikh SC whose request was confirmed by the football governing body.

A statement by FERWAFA pointed out that the club’s withdrawal is due to ‘unavoidable reasons.’

Al Hilal SC, Al-Merrikh SC, and El Ahli SC Wad Medina are not participating in any football competitions taking place on Sudanese soil due to the ongoing civil war in the country.

For the same reason, the Sudanese national team has also been hosting its 2025 Africa Cup of Nations and 2026 World Cup qualifiers either at Martyrs of Benina Stadium in Benghazi, Libya, or at Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.
