Speaking at the sorrowful event, the Chairman of SORAS, Charles Mporanyi recalled the unity and solidarity that characterized SORAS employees saying the administration came under pressure from political leaders before 1994 to introduce tribal differences which he said they resisted.
Recalling the lifetime of the fallen colleagues, Mporanyi said their unity and solidarity will always guide the rest and challenged the current staff to follow their example.
Soras staff killed during the Genocide were Celestin Kambanda, Marie Claire Kantengwa, Felix Mudenge, Antoinette Umutesi, Immaculate Uwiringiye, Jonas Muhire, Dr Charles Munyangeyo, Theoneste Ruzindaza and Evarist Sibomana.
Theodore Simburudari, the president of IBUKA commended SORAS’ initiative of commemorating its staff and called upon other institutions to follow the example.
"Commemoration should not be left to survivors alone, genocide is a crime against everybody, which calls for the entire citizenry to join the struggle of fighting its ideology and commemoration is one of the strategies,” Simburudari said.
SORAS management offered financial support to the families of deceases staff members.
