Sunday
Marines FC 1-2 Police FC
Goals from Alain "Bacca” Kwitonda and Elijah Ani helped Police FC extend their unbeaten run to five matches in the Rwanda Premier League this season.
Police edged Marines FC 2-1 at Umuganda Stadium in Rubavu on Sunday, a result that keeps Ben Moussa’s men firmly in the title race with 15 points from five games.
The visitors dominated the first half and deservedly took the lead in the 24th minute through a fine strike from Kwitonda.
After the break, Yves Rwasamanzi’s Marines improved their rhythm and enjoyed more possession, but they lacked the creativity to seriously threaten the Police defence.
Police quickly regained control early in the second half, and in the 47th minute, Ani doubled the lead to ensure the visitors returned to Kigali with all three points.
Despite continued pressure from Police in search of a third goal, their attempts went off target.
Mubaraka Nizeyimana scored a late consolation for Marines in stoppage time (90+4’), but it was too late.
