The launch, held on October 10 at Zaria Court in Kigali, marks a significant step forward in strengthening the country’s dairy value chain, empowering farmers, and expanding consumer choice.

Speaking at the event, James Kagaba, Managing Director of Inyange Milk Powder Plant, described the moment as both a celebration of innovation and a response to consumer demand.

The Inyange Instant Whole Milk Powder is available in 500g and 1kg sachets, priced at Rwf10,000 and Rwf20,000 respectively.

"Today is a special day for Inyange Industries, this product answers a question we have long been asked; when will Inyange bring instant milk powder to every Rwandan home? We are proud to say that moment has arrived," said Kagaba.

Maurice Toroitich, Managing Director of NCBA Bank Rwanda, hailed the launch as a vital achievement for the nation’s food security and industrial independence.

The Inyange Instant Whole Milk Powder is available in 500g and 1kg sachets, priced at Rwf10,000 and Rwf20,000 respectively.

Designed for families and individuals, it dissolves instantly in warm or cold water to produce fresh, creamy milk with the same taste and nutrition as farm-fresh milk.

"This isn’t just milk powder; it’s the freshness and quality of Rwandan milk made even more convenient, our goal is to make sure every Rwandan can easily access high-quality milk wherever they are,” Kagaba added.

Kagaba highlighted that Inyange’s Nyagatare-based facility now produces up to 50 tonnes of milk powder per day, ensuring consistent supply for both domestic and regional markets.

"Our factory is equipped to meet local demand, and as more customers come on board, we’ll keep scaling production, retail buyers and distributors will have differentiated pricing, ensuring competitiveness across the chain,” Kagaba said.

He emphasised that the new product stands out for its purity, freshness, and local origin; crafted from milk produced by Rwandan farmers and processed to the highest international standards.

The product’s packaging symbolises quality, purity, and the richness of fresh milk while the iconic splashing glass on the pack reflects the instant transformation from powder to liquid milk.

"This is not just a product; it’s a promise fulfilled. For years, farmers have faced seasonal challenges; milk abundance during the rains and scarcity in the dry season. Today, Inyange’s innovation brings lasting stability to that cycle.”

"I have nothing against global brands like Nestlé, but now that we have Inyange milk powder, I hope to see less of NIDO on our shelves. This is made in Rwanda; and that’s something to celebrate,” revealed Toroitich.

Additionally, the Government of Rwanda reaffirmed its commitment to supporting industrial innovation and local manufacturing.

Alexis Kabayiza, Chief Technical Advisor at the Ministry of Trade and Industry, praised the launch as a model for value addition and industrial resilience.

"This new product embodies the government’s drive towards self-reliance and import substitution,” Kabayiza said.

"It strengthens our farmers’ market, creates jobs, and ensures that more Rwandans consume products made within our borders. Together with private partners, we will keep building a strong, competitive industrial base.”

For local dairy farmers, the launch means a steady, reliable market for their milk.

Vincent Nduwayezu, a cattle farmer from Rulindo District, shared how Inyange’s growing product range has transformed livelihoods.

"Before partnering with Inyange, we often lost milk during surplus seasons,” he said. "Now, every drop counts. The factory even provided us with milk collection equipment and technical support. Knowing your milk always has a buyer motivates us to produce even more.”

Distributors, too, are welcoming the product with enthusiasm. Marie Germaine Nyiranshuti, a dairy distributor from Gasabo District, said:

"Customers have long asked for locally made milk powder. We used to import it, but now we have quality milk made right here in Rwanda. It’s affordable, trusted, and in high demand.”
