MUCH as APR’s Cliff Owuor concedes that his Indomitable Lions are drawn in a tough group in the upcoming Fiba-Africa Club Championship, the Kenyan reckons that there is enough firepower in the team to progress into the preliminary stage.

APR is drawn in Group A alongside 2006 champions Petro Atletico of Luanda, Nigeria’s Kano Pillars, Kenya Ports Authority and ASB Mazembe of Democratic Republic of Congo.

According to Owuor, all sides are strong and APR players need to be on their toes in all the games. "It is a tough group and we have to be very alert.

The likes of Petro and Kano Pillars have good experience in the tournament while KPA and Mazembe have revamped their squads so we have to be on our toes,” he said.

Group B has defending champion Primeiro de Agosto of Angola, Warriors of Uganda, ASPAC of Benin Republic, Cooperative Bank of Kenya and Interclub of Congo Brazzaville.

Since 2002 when the event was made annual, Primeiro de Agosto has won five titles while Ivory Coast’s Abidjan basketball club and Petro Atletico have won one apiece. Action starts on Sunday through to December 22.
