Every girl that enters the competition has one goal in mind –winning. no matter how beautiful or talented each contestant is, there will always be one winner.

Beauty lies in the hands of the beholder, but in this case it is a little different. In beauty pageants, dozens of women are judged according to their physical, emotional, mental, social and analytical skills.

"For someone to be crowned a beauty queen, she has to be intelligent and beautiful while the other factors move in tandem,” say Evelyn Umurerwa, a Judge on the Miss Rwanda panel.

As the panel of judges looks at a good number of beautiful ladies with good bodies, they consider a number of things that would make some a ‘queen’.

While some one has the beauty in terms of physical and facial appeararance she also has to be confident and with poise.

Much as the size matters less in selecting Miss Rwanda, an aspiring beauty queen must not be fat.

She does not need to have a flabby tummy, very huge and wide hips; extra flesh is not necessary.

"A woman of substance has to possess every thing in place in the most perfect way; her title has to speak for its self, because people expect to see a sparkle in the person they say is the ‘beauty queen,” says Dr.Jean Piere Higiro,The Initiator of Miss Campus.

On the aspect of height, a beauty queen should atleast be 1.70 meters Of course age and discipline also determine.
A beauty queen should be between 18 to 25 years. She should not be married or have children.

"This is to ensure that they serve their respective institutions with undivided attention,” says Higiro.
Apart from the height, age, elegance at thecatwalk, beauty queens should have big brains.

The aspirants’ reasoning capacity takes 50 percent of the marks awarded for beauty pageants.

"Beauty aspirants are asked general social, cultural and international questions. These help determine who can represent the country,” says Umurerwa.

The beauty queens intellect has to be backed up with a great personality. Selfish girls are never taken an beauty queens. Questions on aspirants’ future plans are used to identify selfish beauty candidates.

Eloquence and confidence are key aspects considered as well.
