Above-normal rainfall and cooler temperatures are expected across much of the country in June, with parts of the Northern and Western provinces forecast to receive the highest rainfall totals, according to the latest monthly weather outlook from the Rwanda Meteorology Agency (Meteo Rwanda). The forecast indicates that rainfall ranging between 20 and 120 millimetres is expected during the month, slightly above the long-term June average of between 10 and 100 millimetres. The highest rainfall amounts are expected in parts of Musanze and Nyabihu districts, where cumulative rainfall could reach between 100 and 120 millimetres. Other areas likely to receive relatively high rainfall, ranging from 80 to 100 millimetres, include the remaining parts of Musanze and Nyabihu, much of Ngororero District, parts of Burera and Gakenke districts, sections of Rusizi, Nyamasheke, Rutsiro and Rubavu districts, as well as a small portion of Nyamagabe District. Similar amounts are forecast for parts of Muhanga, Kamonyi, Ruhango, Nyagatare, Nyamagabe and Nyaruguru districts. The rest of the country, including much of Kigali and several districts in the Eastern Province, is expected to receive between 20 and 50 millimetres of rainfall. Cooler temperatures expected in high-altitude areas Maximum temperatures across the country are forecast to range between 19°C and 30°C. The warmest conditions are expected in many parts of Kigali City, the Eastern Province, the Amayaga region and the Bugarama Plain, where daytime temperatures could reach between 27°C and 30°C. ALSO READ: Inside efforts to improve weather forecast accuracy Meanwhile, cooler daytime temperatures of between 19°C and 21°C are expected in parts of Musanze, Nyabihu, Ngororero, Rutsiro and Rubavu districts. Night-time temperatures are forecast to range between 10°C and 18°C. The coldest nights are expected in parts of Musanze, Nyabihu, Rubavu, Nyamagabe and Nyaruguru districts, where temperatures could fall to between 10°C and 12°C. Warmer nights, with temperatures ranging from 16°C to 18°C, are expected in parts of Kigali City and districts such as Nyagatare, Gatsibo, Kayonza and Kirehe. Strong winds forecast in some areas Meteo Rwanda has also warned of moderate to strong winds across the country during June. The strongest winds, reaching between 8 and 12 metres per second, are expected in parts of Rubavu, Rutsiro, Karongi, Nyamasheke, Rusizi, Musanze, Burera and Kirehe districts. Moderate to strong winds of between 6 and 8 metres per second are forecast in several districts, including Nyagatare, Gatsibo, Kayonza, Ngoma, Nyaruguru, Nyamagabe, Rulindo and Gicumbi. The rest of the country is expected to experience moderate winds ranging between 4 and 6 metres per second.
