MUHANGA – Scores of primary and secondary school teachers in Muhanga district are demanding an explanation as to why they have not been paid for the last two months.

"The reasons for the delay has not been explained to us but most of us are not happy about the way the payment process is being handled,” said one teacher who asked not to be named out of fear of being victimized for speaking freely.

"It means that we are not even sure that we shall have a good festive season.”

Muhanga is among the six districts which have had problems with teachers’ salaries, according to the Ministry of Education reports.

District officials could not be reached for comments by press time. However, sources said the provincial officials were keen to address the issue with the district officials.
