RWANDA’S woes at this year’s ITF/CAT U-18 East African circuit continued yesterday when the country’s key players Hamisi Gatete and Mele Bizimana were both ejected from the Kampala leg.

Bizimana lost out to Togo’s Bernard Kokou 0-6, 1-6 while Gatete suffered a straight sets defeat (1-6, 1-6) against the hard-hitting Egyptian Hossam Karim.

It was a continuation of the country’s poor run at the event which is being played at Lugogo tennis courts.

On Monday, Rudasingwa lost out to Auf Mohammed of Egypt 4-6, 4-6 while Desire Nkurutsu could not match his Great Britain opponent Steven Bellington after losing out in straight sets 3-6, 2-6.

Rwanda’s top female player Gisele Umumararungu also failed to impress after going down 2-6, 2-6 against N’tcha Stephanie of Benin.

By press time, Christian Rudasingwa and Bizimana were meanwhile gearing up for a tricky game against the Kenyan pair of Dennis Ochieng and Gilbert Kibet in the doubles category.
