Welcome TIGO... but please make honest claims

Editor,

Like many Rwandans, I am pleased to see the launch of a third telecommunication provider on the market. However, I am concerned that TIGO has begun by making two false claims.

Firstly of all your advertising slogan--’Rwanda’s Most Reliable Network’ is too affirmative too early. You may want to spread beyond Kigali and wait a few months when you have 100,000 plus subscribers before you make that claim.

Secondly on price you claim to have the lowest tariff yet when one does the math, TIGO is the most expensive. Let’s go; MTN is 78 Francs, Rwandatel is 80 Francs and TIGO is 90 Francs per minute, what do you mean by lowest tariff?
Consumers should not be confused by the per-second tariff when we know that we rarely talk for less than a minute.

Importantly when one says TIGO to TIGO and TIGO to other providers costs this, consumers should remember there are only 40,000 TIGO subscribers calling mainly MTN numbers therefore the higher rate is what you are going to pay for.

RURA should ensure customers are not bamboozled by creative advertising.
