The Ministry of Education has released the official school calendar for the 2025/2026 academic year, with adjustments expected for schools in Kigali due to the upcoming 2025 UCI Road World Championships. The government announced that all schools within the capital will temporarily close from September 21 to 28, coinciding with the eight-day championship. The event, which will bring the world’s top cyclists to Rwanda for the first-ever UCI World Championships on African soil, is expected to cause extensive road closures across the city. According to a public advisory issued on Wednesday, August 11, the suspension is intended to ensure the safety of cyclists, students, and the general public. The ministry noted that pecific schedule adjustments for affected schools will be communicated in due course. Nationally, the 2025/2026 academic year is scheduled to begin on September 8 and conclude on July 3, spanning a total of 39 weeks. The first term is expected to start on September 8and end on December 19. After a two-week break, students will resume classes for the second term on January 5, which will last for 13 weeks, concluding on April 3. After another two-week break, the third term will commence on April 20 and continue for 11 weeks, ending on July 3. The calendar also provides details on the national examinations schedule. Primary Leaving Examinations will begin on July 7 and end on July 9. For secondary school students, national practical examinations are scheduled for June 1 to June 19, while the written exams will be done from July 15 to July 24 . The release of the calendar came shortly after the National Examination and School Inspection Authority (NESA) published results for the Primary Leaving and Ordinary Level national examinations.
