Police to set up gender directorate

National Police chief has revealed that the force is planning to set up a Gender Directorate within the national Police, a unit that will focus on boosting gender equality within the force.

National Police chief has revealed that the force is planning to set up a Gender Directorate within the national Police, a unit that will focus on boosting gender equality within the force.

In an interview with The New Times, the Commissioner General of Police Emmanuel Gasana said that the directorate will also be charged with Gender Mainstreaming and Research

"The unite will promote gender equality by empowering both women and men through dissemination of information, coordination and networking with all stakeholders and mainstreaming of gender at all levels,” said Gasana

"The directorate will facilitate the implementation process of national, regional and international instruments and to inform women of their rights through discussions and counseling.”
