The results of the 2024/25 National Examinations for the Advanced Level of Secondary School (A-Level), released on Monday, September 1, at the Rwanda Education Board (REB) headquarters, show a significant performance improvement, with the overall pass rate rising to 89.1 percent, up from 78.6 percent the previous year. The Minister of Education, Joseph Nsengimana, attributed the 10.5 per cent increase in the pass rate to the remedial programme, among other factors. He emphasized that students are capable of succeeding and only need consistent guidance to excel.ALSO READ: National exams: Top-ranking schools announced He also noted a major change this year, where exam results were released in September instead of November. “This used to affect students because those who didn’t pass needed to repeat, while those who passed needed timely results to pursue further studies. Since the academic year begins in September, this adjustment is a big step forward,” Nsengimana said. According to the National Examinations and School Inspection Authority (NESA) Director General, Bernard Bahati, 106,418 candidates registered for the exams, and 106,079 sat. Of these, 105,997 were graded, and 94,409 passed, marking an overall pass rate of 89.1 percent. Girls vs Boys Gender-disaggregated results show that male candidates outperformed female candidates, with 93.5 percent passing compared to 85.5 percent for females. In General Education, 61,942 candidates registered, 61,737 sat for the exams, and 61,683 were graded. Of these, 51,667 passed, marking an 83.8 percent pass rate. In Technical Secondary Schools (TSS), 36,254 candidates registered, 36,141 sat for the exams, and 36,130 were graded. A total of 35,393 passed, achieving a remarkable 98 percent pass rate. In Professional Education (PE): 8,222 candidates registered, 8,201 sat, and 8,184 were graded. Of these, 7,349 passed, representing an 89.8 percent pass rate.
