Look within

It is a human weakness to put the blame for one’s failures on some other person or destiny. People are quick to find faults with the work of others, but are often blind to their own faults. I recollect a verse written by a poet from medieval India which states that, “when I ventured out to see a bad man, I found no one, but on looking inside I found that there was no one more awful than me.”

It is a human weakness to put the blame for one’s failures on some other person or destiny. People are quick to find faults with the work of others, but are often blind to their own faults.

I recollect a verse written by a poet from medieval India which states that, "when I ventured out to see a bad man, I found no one, but on looking inside I found that there was no one more awful than me.”

There are highly disciplined and strong minded human beings who are above human weaknesses, but majority of mortals suffer from different kinds of weaknesses including finding fault with others or circumstances.

Maybe, it is an intrinsic human weakness, but some persons overcome it and some are not able to do so.

Each and every person has a dream for their life, to make a name or fortune in his or her field. But few people work hard  for it with determination in the right direction.

Moreover they do not have the patience to work persistently till they find results. Naturally, the outcome is not up to their high expectations. Now they start putting blame on others for their failure.

They would accuse another person of unfair practices, for having connections in high places, not helping them etc.  To the extent that, I have   seen some grown up   people blaming their parents, "for not telling them the importance of studies due to which, they did not study to realize their potential”. Sounds funny, doesn’t it?

Many individuals have a high opinion of themselves. They think themselves to be the best dressed, very efficient in their work, smart in speaking, e.t.c. They tend to be critical of and mock people seemingly inferior to them in ways. And they do not hesitate to back bite people thus causing harm.

These persons tend to forget a small thing. The world is a big place of habitation, and there would be billions better than them by all means.

Even in their own places, several individuals would be more talented and skilled maybe quiet dignified people who do not flaunt their skills but work quietly.

There is much chaos in the world because of this type of mentality in people. This does not allow them to rest in peace, and they do not allow others to be peaceful also.

Such attitude   also disturbs the mental peace of others. People unconcerned, for no fault of their own, are wrongly targeted by their work mates and sometimes put in harm’s way.  The situation becomes stressful for both.

In families this kind of attitude disrupts the happiness and   harmony of family life, which negates the very purpose of family. One sibling may accuse the parents of favouring another and talk about it.

Outsiders may get an opportunity to intervene and meddle in family matters which mostly leads to losses in the family.

This kind of unhealthy behaviour, leads to many kinds of health related problems like hypertension, heart attacks, peptic ulcers, e.t.c. all due to the stress induced.

The solution only lies in moving away from such mentality. There is a saying that if you point a figure at others, 4 fingers point towards you.

This is very true. Every person should try to do some introspection, if they have failed to obtain desired objectives. As a mature person one is socially and legally accountable for his or her own decisions and cannot blame friends or family members for any failure.

After realizing ones faults and correcting them, one is liberated and is able to see things from the perspective of others. And this helps.

Thus, instead of being bitter and critical towards others, one starts trying to correct their own mistakes. This will definitely help in ones overall positive development.

Meditation provides one an opportunity to do some introspection everyday. Regarding destiny, it is altogether a vast debatable subject.

But one thing is sure; every human being has the potential to shape their destiny by hard work and determination.  Motto should be, ‘seek your own faults not other’s’.

The world would become a peaceful heaven if all adopt the attitude of looking within themselves.
