RWANDA Rugby Federation (RRF) has challenged the Sports Ministry to come to their rescue in future regional tournaments.

The call follows a spirited effort by the national rugby team (Silverbacks) in last weekend’s Hima-Mak 10s tournament which was staged in Uganda.

RRF vice president Nsenga Gerald believes that if well facilitated, the team and Rwandan rugby in general will reach greater heights.

"We call upon the government to intervene and respond positively as they normally do with the likes of football, basketball to mention but a few.”

In the Mak-10s event, Nsenga believes that Silverbacks’ chances of winning a trophy were pegged back by the fact that the team was short of tournaments.

"Normally, such tournaments require players to be in good shape but most of our players were not up there.”
Similar to last year, MTN Heathens out-muscled Kenya’s Mwamba 22-17 to take home Rwf1.3m.

Silverbacks and the other regional teams have now switched their focus to the Nakuru 7s slated for November 28 to 29.
