Rwandan socialite Sandra Teta was briefly detained by Ugandan police following an alleged altercation with her longtime partner, singer Douglas Mayanja, known in music circles as Weasel, but was released after he declined to press charges.

According to Kampala Metropolitan Police, the incident took place at Shan’s Bar in Munyonyo after what witnesses described as a heated exchange. Teta is accused of deliberately hitting Weasel with a vehicle registered as UBH 148Y. The car is now impounded at Kabalagala Police Station.

Weasel was first taken to Mukwaya Hospital before being transferred to Nsambya Hospital, where he is receiving treatment, police said.

Detectives have opened an investigation into the circumstances that led to the incident, which unfolded in the early hours of Monday morning.

Teta, a familiar name in Kigali’s nightlife and fashion scene, relocated to Uganda in 2018 after serving time in Rwanda for charges linked to a failed fashion event. Once in Kampala, she took on a promotional role at Hideout Bar & Lounge, a known hub for artists including members of the Mayanja family.

It was there that she rekindled her relationship with Weasel, a member of the once-celebrated Goodlyfe Crew and brother to fellow musicians Jose Chameleone and Pallaso.

The couple, who share a son and daughter, had previously revealed plans to wed in 2022. Their relationship, however, has long drawn public scrutiny. In 2022, Teta briefly returned to Rwanda following allegations of domestic abuse that attracted media and legal attention. Since then, the couple has faced several turbulent episodes, yet continued to find ways to reconnect.

In May, the two were seen together again, this time in Kigali, where she introduced Weasel to her family.
