RWANDA’S Amavubi Stars will know their Cecafa Challenge Cup opponents this Wednesday.

The draws, which had been scheduled for last month, will be held in Kenya’s capital, Nairobi.

It is a great opportunity for Amavubi to end their barren run which stretches to nine years.

Amavubi last won the tournament in 1999 when Rwanda’s string side (Rwanda B) outclassed Kenya’s Harambee Stars 3-1 in the final.

This year’s tourney, which is slated to run from November 28 to December 13, will be jointly held in Nairobi and Mumias-a town located in the western province of Kenya.

Some of the countries set to compete in the annual event include Zanzibar, Uganda, Eritrea, Djibouti, Somalia, Rwanda, Burundi, Sudan, Ethiopia, hosts Kenya as well as invitees from other soccer regions.

Reports also reveal that Libya is interested in taking part in the tournament, while Zambia’s Chipolopolo are also set to grace the tournament.

Even after receiving Rwf56.49m from the Kenyan government, Cecafa is still Rwf376.2m short of staging a successful tournament.
