THE long awaited Fifa World Cup trophy arrives in the country tonight as part of its Africa tour sponsored by Coca-Cola.

Bralirwa’s Communications Manager Anita Munyaneza told Times Sport yesterday that the world’s most coveted sports icon and symbol of football supremacy touches down at Kigali International Airport at 7pm aboard a Coca Cola chartered plane.

The trophy will then be received by officials from the Ministry of Sports and Culture, Bralirwa Management and dignitaries from the Rwanda Football Federation, Ferwafa.

Coca-Cola will officially present the authentic trophy to President Paul Kagame tomorrow at Amahoro stadium.

Thousands of soccer fans will grace the stadium to have a close look at the gold trophy during an exhibition match between two Amavubi select sides.

Munyaneza further added that 65 people have won tickets to take a souvenir photo with the trophy.  Apart from a souvenir photo, fans will have a chance to view a special 3-D movie showcasing memorable moments of the FIFA World Cup.

The first leg of the tour draws to a close in Cape Town, South Africa on December 3, 24 hours before the 2010 FIFA World Cup draws.

The second part of the Trophy tour will see the trophy visit other countries across the globe from January to April 2010.

This year’s trophy tour is the longest ever global tour, with FIFA and Coca-Cola taking the trophy to 86 countries.
