In a bid to expand their network, Rwanda’s national carrier Rwandair is set to introduce new flights to Goma and Dar es Salaam, this was revealed by the company’s Marketing and Corporate Communications Manager, Michael Otieno.

According to Otieno, the flights to Goma and Dar es Salaam which will start on the 2nd and 15th December respectively comes as the carrier intends to expand its network.

"The flight to Goma which is starting on the 2nd will be costing $199 (Rwf112, 952) for a return ticket. For the Dar es Salaam flight it will be costing $399 (Rwf225,516) for a return ticket,” Otieno explained.

Otieno also said that the carrier will be flying to Goma four times a week and three times to Dar es Salaam.

Of recent, in order to deliver better services and coping with growing competition within the region, the carrier has opened up a sales office in Nairobi and it has started cutting of fares to some of its destinations.

And the carrier also has plans to fly into Johannesburg, South Africa daily before the end of the year. Rwandair is currently working on special offers and packages for the FIFA World Cup 2010.

Also recently, the national carrier introduced a direct flight to Brussels. This was involved in the commercial deal between Rwandair and Brussels Airlines that was signed back in March this year.

The deal now enables the national carrier to sell 10 seats in economy class as a marketing carrier on all 3 weekly flights between Kigali and Brussels, operated by Brussels Airlines.

This offers Rwandair clients the flexibility of booking online or buying tickets through any of the Rwandair offices in Eastern or Southern Africa and fly out to Brussels direct from Kigali on every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. This agreement also reinforces the presence of Brussels Airlines on the Rwandan market.

The new reforms are coming in as the carrier is actively going through internal and structural changes geared towards offering elevated customer service and safety in its operations.
