Volleyball: REG, APR crowned champions of taxpayers’ tourney

Rwanda Energy Group (REG) and APR volleyball clubs were Sunday, November 20, crowned champions of the just-concluded Taxpayers’ tournament in men and women’s categories respectively.

The two-day tournament was organized by Rwanda Revenue Authority (RRA) in collaboration with local volleyball governing body (FRVB) on the occasion of the 20th National Taxpayers Appreciation Day celebration.

The tournament brought together six teams in each of the men and women’s categories.

REG won the men’s tourney after beating Gisagara on 3-1 sets during the final held at the BK Arena.

The match began on a positive note for REG, who took two first sets on 26-24 and 31-29 before Gisagara bounced back to win the third set 25-20 to force a fourth set which REG eventually won 25-18.

Meanwhile, APR won the women’s tourney after beating RRA 3-1 sets in the final.

Awards:

REG’s right-attacker Guiondong Marcel and APR’s Seraphine Mukantambara were named most valuable players (MVP) in respective categories.

On top of the trophy, the champions from each category won Rwf2,000,000 while the first runners-up walked away with Rwf1,500,000.
