United Generation Basketball (UGB) squeezed a 95-76 win over Patriots on Sunday to claim third place in the 2025 Rwanda Basketball League.

Having beaten Patriots 96-83 in Game 1 on Friday, July 4, UGB returned to finish the job at BK Arena on Sunday, with yet another win over Sanny Niyomugabo’s side which has never been the same since being knocked out of the semifinals playoffs by APR.

Amotoe James Kofi and Mark Burton made crucial contributions to the victory, scoring 21 points each.

Patriots’ Ronald Nato Kolmia stood out as Game 2 scoring leader with a game high 26 points but his side wasn’t good enough to cope with UGB’s high tempo from the very beginning to the end.

UGB claimed the first quarter 32-16 and headed into half-time break leading 49-36 despite losing the second quarter 20-17

In the second half, UGB showed no intentions of slowing down as they dominated the third quarter 26-19 and extend their lead to 75-53 with one more quarter to play. Patriots won the last quarter 21-20 but it was not enough.

UGB have achieved a rare feat, since their first appearance at the playoffs in about 20 years.

Meanwhile, APR restored their lead in the best-of-seven-series of Rwanda Basketball League finals after beating Rwanda Energy Group (REG) 96-59 in Game 3.

Point guard Adonis Filer scored a game high 17 points as the army side went 2-1 in the finals. Action resumes on Wednesday, July 9, when the domestic rivals square off in Game 4 at BK Arena.
