Basketball: U-16 national team departs for regional tourney

The U-16 national basketball team has departed for the FIBA U16 Africa Zone 5 Championship, set to take place in Kibaha, Tanzania, from June 12 to 14.

The tournament, featuring both boys’ and girls’ categories, will comprise four countries: Uganda, Kenya, Rwanda, and hosts Tanzania.

The teams will compete for a ticket to the finals of the 2025 FIBA U16 Africa Basketball Championship, scheduled to take place in Rwanda from September 2 to 14.

Despite participating in Zone 5 qualifiers, the Rwandan national team has already secured a spot in the finals as the host country. This will mark the first time the African U-16 Championship will be held in Kigali.
