PRESS RELEASE: Third Financial Reporting and Excellence Awards (FREA 2025)

THEME: “Beyond Numbers: Reporting with Purpose and Impact”

Friday, June 06, 2025

Kigali, Rwanda – June 6, 2025: The Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Rwanda (ICPAR) hereby opens the 3rd Financial Reporting and Excellence Awards (FREA 2025) for organisations to be able to submit their most recent audited annual reports and allow members to nominate candidates for the various other awards on offer.

The objective of the Financial Reporting and Excellence Awards is to promote a culture of transparency, accountability, and good governance by recognising and rewarding organisations and individuals that demonstrate excellence in financial reporting, sustainability disclosure, and corporate governance practices. The awards aim to encourage compliance with international reporting standards, enhance the quality and credibility of financial statements, and support informed decision-making by a wide range of stakeholders including investors, regulators, and the public.

The Institute encourages entities to embrace integrated and meaningful reporting that highlights not only financial performance but also the organisation’s purpose, governance practices, environmental stewardship, and social impact.

It is also important to recall that this is not just a mere competition as it challenges organizations to think holistically, align their reporting with stakeholder needs, and demonstrate how they contribute to sustainable development and long-term value creation.

The benefit to organisations will also extend to building trust and transparency with investors and stakeholders, attracting sustainable investors, help comply with regulatory requirements and industry standards, which in the end contributes to better performance hence the theme: "Beyond Numbers: Reporting with Purpose and Impact”

The award is open to all Rwanda-based organisations that prepare annual reports, financial statements; and all participating entities shall receive feedback on their performance from a team of independent experts, and we believe this will go a long way in providing insights from the best performers, encouraging them to share trends and help to spread leading practices, for better performance going forward.

This year, the Institute continues to encourage organisations to embrace IFRS sustainability reporting as well as recognising individuals or organisations that have contributed to the development of the accountancy profession in Rwanda and beyond.

Thus, the rationale for including the following other categories: CFO of the Year, CPA of the Year, Young CPA of the Year, Exceptional Female Accountant of the Year, and CPA fellowship for members who will have met the set criteria.

The FREA 2025 gala dinner ceremony shall be held physically on September 26, 2025, at Crown Conference Hall, Kigali (KG 13 Avenue, Nyarutarama) starting from 15h30.
