RUSIZI – Local leaders in Rusizi District have been urged to encourage residents in their respective localities to effectively utilise the available land.

The call was made by MP Adolphe Bazatoha, the president of the Agriculture, Livestock and Environment Commission in Parliament.

While addressing sector executive secretaries and other district officials at the district conference hall, on Wednesday, Bazatoha said residents should be encouraged to consolidate land by accepting to be resettled in Midugudu (community settlements).

"The main objective of our visit to this district is to urge you as residents to fully utilise available land. This can easily be achieved through land consolidation and residing in community settlements,” Bazatoha said.

He also asked local leaders to encourage farmers to adopt modern farming practices in order to boost agricultural production.

At the meeting, the Mayor, Fabien Sindayiheba, disclosed that the district has 125 designated sites for Midugudu.
