RWANDA’S U-20 team ‘Junior Wasps’ got off to a bright start at the on-going  Francophone Games in Beirut, Lebanon after Saturday’s 3-2 win over Canada.

Rayon Sport’s Jamal Mwiseneza scored a brace while Titi Tumaine scored the other to take Rwanda atop Group A with three points.

But the team’s real hurdle is today when they face defending champions Cameroon at Beirut’s Municipal stadium.

A win or draw leaves Rwanda in a good position of qualifying for the semi-finals.  In Group B, Senegal is looking to recover from her 0-1 defeat over Morocco when they play France while Ivory Coast entertains hosts Lebanon in Group C.

Lebanon lost 1-2 to Congo Brazzaville in their opening match.

After last minute withdraws by Mali, Burkina Faso and Egypt, new draws saw Rwanda drawn alongside Canada and Cameroon in Group A. France was drawn with Senegal and Morocco in Group B while Group C pits Ivory Coast with Congo Brazzaville and Lebanon.

Group winners and the best second-placed team advance to the semi-finals.

Away from football, Rwanda is also set to compete in table tennis, athletics and cultural dance. Some 3,000 athletes from 42 countries are taking part in the competition.
