Two goals from Denis Omedi and another from in form attacker Djibril Ouatarra powered APR FC to a convincing 3-0 win over struggling Marine FC at Kigali Pele Stadium on Wednesday, May 7.
The victory propelled Darko Novic’s side to the summit of the Rwanda Premier League table and opened a two-point lead ahead of title rivals Rayon Sports who play Rutsiro FC on Thursday.
Novic made two changes to the team that defeated Rayon Sports 2-0 in the Peace Cup final over the weekend as Frodouard Mugiraneza and Ramadhan Niyibizi were both handed starting berths ahead of Bosco Ruboneka and Lamine Bah who were not in the match day squad.
Marines had their full squad as their attack was led by Taiba Mbonyumwami.
After the early exchanges, winger Denis Omedi put the home side ahead with a fine finish as they took full control of the game.
Marines made some good incursions but couldn't break the APR defense marshalled around Clement Niyigena and Yunusu Nshimiyimana.
Red hot striker Djibril Ouatarra netted what was his eighth league goal of the season on the stroke of half time as he eventually put the game beyond the reach of Marines FC.

APR held on to a convincing win as they moved back to the apex of the table.
Elsewhere, in an afternoon kickoff at Kigali Pele Stadium, Danny Ndikumana scored the only goal of the game as Gasogi United beat Mukura Victory Sports 1-0 to complete a double over the Huye-based club.
At Huye Stadium, Henry Msanga and Didier Mugisha were on target as Police FC beat Amagaju 2-0 to avenge their 1-0 defeat in the first round.
