Health Centre lacks crucial equipment

RUSIZI – The Director of Nkungu Health Centre in Rusizi District, Gaspard Senyenzi, has said that the centre lacks adequate medical equipment necessary to offer better health services to patients.

The officer made the remarks while meeting members of a parliamentary commission that was conducting a country-wide tour of the country’s healthcare system. Senyenzi, said there is need for urgent government intervention to arrest the situation.

The lawmakers are members of the parliamentary commission on Health and Social Affairs, made up of legislators Spéciose Mukandutiye, Dr. Ezéchias Rwabuhihi and Eugénie Hureriya.

Senyenzi said: "Compared to the previous years, Nkungu Health Centre has improved gradually in terms of offering services to patients. However, we currently face a big problem of inadequate medical equipment and understaffing.”

He said the facility has no single ambulance and that it also lacks consultation rooms and drug stores. While responding to the complaints, MP Mukandutiye pledged that they would do their best to see the problems addressed.
