Using ICT at work. Rwanda is aiming to be a regional ICT hub.

Editor,

I’m writing to you on behalf of The World Summit Award (WSA), a global initiative to select and promote the world’s best e-Content and innovative ICT applications.

WSA was started in 2003 in the framework of the United Nations’ World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) as a contribution from the Austrian Government to the global effort to bridge the digital divide and close the content gap.

WSA activities include national contests and selections of best practice, a global contest held every 2 years and content-focused national and international conferences with exhibitions — the WSA Road Show.

WSA works to strengthen entrepreneurship within content industries and to bring about economic and cultural development through the creative use of ICT’s.

It supports the UN Millennium Development Goals of ending poverty, hunger and disease, saving the environment and empowering women.

On September 2-3, 2009, WSA held Gala Events in Mexico and awarded winners with prizes as result of their excellent work. Few IT companies in Rwanda did participate in the competition but none qualified for the awards.

I have been mobilizing, on behalf of WSA, IT companies in Rwanda to participate in the competition that runs after every 2 years.

I would much appreciate your help in making information heard and read by many young and innovative people in this country.

I have no doubt that your daily newspaper makes a positive impact in the growth and development of minds in this land.
