Five-star APR run riot against ‘wasteful’ Rutsiro FC in Rubavu
Saturday, April 26, 2025

Rutsiro FC goalkeeper Arnold Matumere and his entire back four were as porous as ever as they virtually gifted APR who ran away with a 5-0 victory at Umuganda Stadium on Saturday.

Two unpardonable errors from Matumere coupled with poor defending allowed APR to have their biggest scoreline so far this season.

The win moved APR back to the top of the league table with 52 points, two clear of their title rivals Rayon Sports who visit Etincelles on the same turf on Sunday.

APR started the game brightly as they controlled proceedings by stringing a couple of decent passes together.

Rutsiro had a fine chance to open the scoring in the 27th minute but Jeremie Mumbele's long range drive was saved by Pierre Ishimwe.

APR had an opportunity to break the deadlock in the 33rd minute but Djibril Ouatarra's effort from a free kick at the edge of the box missed target.

The Burkinabe striker made amends moments later with a powerful header inside the penalty box to give the visitors a 1-0 lead in the 35th minute.

Rutsiro shot stopper Matumere made an unpardonable error on the stroke of half time which resulted in the second goal. He attempted to pass the ball but it was intercepted by Bosco Ruboneka who coolly slotted it home in the 45 +1 minute to make it 2-0.

Another costly mistake and miscommunication between Matumere and his defenders gave APR the third goal in the 66th minute. Niyomugabo stole the ball after a poor pass from the goalie, he squared it to Omedi who easily slotted it home to make it 3-0.

The final 12 minutes of the game saw APR relaxing and just playing with no urgency as they bagged a convincing win which put them at the top of the table.
