Tennis duo in Kampala Tennis Futures

REDEMPTION TIME:Jean Claude Gasigwa is desperate to get some wins to his name in the ITF Futures.

Rwanda’s tennis players Jean Claude Gasigwa and Dieudonne Habiyambere are eager to put in a spirited performance in the Kampala F1 Futures which started yesterday at Lugogo, Uganda.

During the Kigali leg, the country’s top seed Gasigwa succumbed to a premature exit from the Rwf5.65m event after going down 3-6, 4-6 against Great Britain’s Philip Barlow.

Habiyambere who won a wild card for the Kampala leg did not even make the main draw after being eliminated in the qualification round.

In Burundi, Gasigwa and Habiyambere suffered early exits in the first leg of the ITF Burundi Men’s Futures.

Gasigwa suffered a 2-6, 2-6 first round defeat against Great Britain’s Richard Brooks. Brooks did not stop their as he was also knocked out Habiyambere in the next round 6-3 6-1 to storm the quarter-finals.

Sheraton Kampala Hotel has sunk Frw8.47m in the week-long event that concludes this Saturday. The Futures circuit wraps up next week with the Nairobi leg.
