APR HC outplayed Police HC with a narrow 27-25 victory in the last game of the regular season in the men's national handball league, held on Sunday, April 20 at Petit Stade.
The results saw the army side finish the regular season without losing a single game, hence summing up the season at the top of the table going into the playoffs.
It was Police HC who started the match brilliantly ad they sought to win and finish at the summit of the table. But APR grew into the game as the pair headed into half time break tied to 12-12.
The second half saw Police HC piling more pressure on APR as they looked to lead the game. Their coach Antoine Ntabanganyimana received a yellow card for his protests against match officials’ decisions which he argued where going against his team. APR capitalized on Police's mistakes, adding 15 points to their tally to secure the match.
Anaclet Bagirishya, coach of APR Handball Club, expressed his excitement after securing the victory which summed up their regular season unbeaten.
"Tactically, the match was on our side thanks to communication between players and us, coaches. We hope to enter the playoffs and we will be ready to defend hard as we did it today," he said.
APR's line player, Jean Paul Muhawenayo, was named man of the match after contributing 8 points, followed by Anthony Lam, who added 5 points.
