NYAGATARE - Eighteen classrooms will be constructed in Nyagatare sector this year, to solve the problem of congestion in classes, an official announced last week.

At a meeting which brought together local administrative and educationalists, the sector executive secretary, Sam Mushabe, said the classrooms will be completed by the end of November this year.

"We want to push construction works of these classrooms to ensure that they are completed by November.

We currently have cases where 80 students occupy one classroom which affects learning outcomes,” he said.

He added that the sector has put more emphasis on mobilising residents to support the construction programme.
"This should not be a responsibility of the sector leaders alone; we are rallying parents and other well wishers behind the construction process. It is everyone’s concern,” he said.

Edward Kabare, the president of Nyagatare District Advisory Council, said residents will contribute according to each individual’s financial ability.

The meeting also urged residents to urgently join the community savings cooperative commonly known as Umurenge Sacco.

According to sector officials, close to Rwf 3 million  has been earmarked for boosting the activities of the sacco.
