KAMONYI - Governor Fidel Ndayisaba has hailed residents of Nyamiyaga sector, in Kamonyi District for their outstanding efforts to fight poverty.

The governor made the remarks while visiting the residents, last week.

He said: "The sector is one of the 101 sectors in the province with extensive cassava plantations. We hope this will lead to poverty reduction because cassava is the ‘gold’ of the province.”

During his visit, Ndayisaba inspected the cassava processing plant built by Ituze Cooperative, Cooperative Umuhoza and an agro-livestock training center in the area.

Residents attest that such activities have improved their social welfare and can afford education for their children and health care.

They said water shortages, access to market and a health center are some of their most pressing challenges.

The governor and district officials promised that a post health centre will be constructed soon, while arrangement is underway to build a health center.

The governor called on parents to send their children to school as a way of reducing illiteracy levels.
