THE national cricket team’s preparations for next month’s ICC World Cricket League Division 3 tournament in Malawi have been boosted with a Rwf3.4m cash package from the Sports Ministry.

The contribution was confirmed yesterday by Mohammed Mukri, the vice president of the local cricket governing body (RCA).

"We acknowledge their contribution. It will go a long way in helping the team get the best possible preparations,” Mukri said.

Meanwhile, Evode Mutuyimana justified his slot on the Malawi-bound  on the national team after Sunday’s blistering performance.

On top of the win, the Challengers’ all-rounder earned his side two bonus points after his superb 78-run knock and a six-wicket haul in a Sulfo league contest against Indorwa.

He received good applauds from Emma Byiringiro, one of the senior players on the national team.

"He played beautiful cricket. His bowling was spot on and his shots were timed to perfection,” Byiringiro noted.
Challengers who were chasing a challenging score of 210 won by two wickets to maintain their lead at the top of Sulfo league.

In Malawi, Rwanda will contend with pre-tournament favourites Sierra Leone, Morocco, Lesotho, Gambia and the hosts. The tournament runs from October 2-7.
