Fire wrecks havoc

Fire spread out around the bishop’s residence on Tuesday in Cyasemakamba, Ngoma district and caused a scuffle among residents as they tried to identify the person who could have started it.

According to the residents, the fire was started by a volunteer at Karitas, a Catholic Church relief agency who wanted to clear the bush around the institution’s fence.
However the NGO’s administration refused to shed light on the issue.

The district’s police commander said that the police will continue investigating the matter

NUR students decry poor hygiene

Students of Rwanda National University (NUR) are complaining about the university’s administration complacency in upgrading sanitation at the university premises.

Some students raised issues of poor hygiene in the campus citing lack of toilets among others and not renovating their hostels.

Man arrested over raping own daughter

Police in Rwamagana are holding a 39-year old man identified as Alphonse Mutungirehe who raped and impregnated his 18-year old daughter.

It is said that Mutungirehe impregnated his daughter and later connived with family members to keep it a secret.
The suspect claimed to have been drunk the time he raped his daughter.

A father of five, Mutungirehe has pleaded guilty to the accusations and says he is ready to receive any punishment.

Nyanza district distributes 400 rabbits

Nyanza district officials distributed over 400 rabbits to residents of Nyange sector as a way of improving their welfare.

The district officials said rabbits have quick return profits and that they are cheap to look after.

The residents also appreciated the donation which they got under the Ubudehe programme.

MPs conclude Gicumbi tour

The parliamentary commission for people’s welfare on Tuesday concluded a 2-day visit in Gicumbi district, Northern Province.

The visit aimed at observing how residents are taken care of in the district and to also inspect the status of the hospitals.

Among the problems identified during the inspection included the shortage of health facilities in comparison with the number of residents in the district.

Residents get 48 Friesians

Residents in Gakenke district, yesterday, received 48 Friesian cows under the one cow per house-hold programme.

The residents expressed appreciation towards the donation and thanked the government for the care it has for its citizens.

Over 120 Friesian cows are to be distributed in five sectors in the district, according to district officials.

CSR officials meet Ngoma residents

Officials from CSR, Social Security Fund of Rwanda yesterday met the residents of Ngoma district to educate them on pension benefits.

The officials called all the employees all areas in the district to register with the pension body for a better future.

Fifty eight get motorcycles

Fifty eight members of a motorcyclist cooperative in Huye District yesterday received motorcycles on loan by the cooperative administration.

The cooperative was established with the aim of improving the standards of living of its members.
