WE ARE STILL SHORT:Robert Masozera

The Minister of Health, Dr Richard Sezibera, yesterday handed over a cheque worth Rwf 26m to the Director General of Diaspora, Robert Masozera as the ministry’s contribution to  the ‘One Dollar Campaign’.

The money was donated by staff working in different health departments in the country and according to Masozera, some of the health-workers donated to the campaign more than once since they had already done so in their respective communities.

Masozera said that the campaign has so far collected Rwf570m in cash while over Rwf400m is still in pledges.

He also valued the land that was donated to the campaign, where the hostels to accommodate orphans of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi will be built at Rwf120m.

This land was donated by local businessman Egide Gatera.
Masozera said that plans are underway to put in place appropriate mechanisms for the management of funds, adding that they are currently looking for competent engineers to kick-start the construction phase of the project.

The campaign was launched in April as an initiative by the Rwanda Diaspora Group Network but later, Rwandans from within joined the efforts to get shelter for the orphans who have not had a home since the Genocide ended 15 years ago.
