BUTARE secondary school did Rwanda proud after claiming the volleyball title at the 2009 East Africa Games which climaxed yesterday in Fort Portal, Uganda.

Butare thrashed Kenya’s Keptile 3-1 to make sure that Rwanda did not leave the Games empty handed.

The result also means that the Southern Province School finished the competition which attracted schools from Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania and Burundi unbeaten.

APAPEB high school also beat Uganda’s Masaka secondary school on penalties (6-5) to lift the girls’ football trophy.

Indangaburezi finished third in the girls’ volleyball category while St. Emmanuel Hanika and Cyuru high school also finished third in the football and Handball categories.

Ugandan side St Mary’s Kitende won both the football and Netball categories, while Gombe (Uganda) and Mukumu (Kenya) won the boys and Girls’ Handball category respectively.
