RDF army chief challenges new graduands to safeguard national interests

The Army Chief of Staff (ACOS) of the Rwanda Defence Force (RDF), Major General Vincent Nyakarundi, has emphasized the importance of discipline and the responsibility to safeguard national interests to new graduates of the Junior Command and Staff Course.

Major General Kanyarundi was speaking during the graduation ceremony for the 24th intake of the Junior Command and Staff Course held on Friday, March 2025, at the Nyakinama Senior Command and Staff College in Musanze District.

The graduating class comprises 75 officers, including 4 women, 2 from the Rwanda National Police (RNP), and 2 from the Rwanda Correctional Service (RCS).

"Congratulations on achieving this significant milestone," stated Major General Nyakarundi. "I challenge you to consistently uphold the RDF&039;s duty to protect national interests whenever they are threatened. Discipline is the cornerstone of operational effectiveness and ethical leadership within the Rwanda Defence Force."

He further stressed the necessity of maintaining sacrifice and integrity, both domestically and during peacekeeping missions, encouraging the graduates to prioritize service over personal gain.

"You must not consider what you get but what you give," added Nyakarundi.

Major Nice Chris Calvin Kayitaba and Captain Ariane Mwiza, among the graduates, expressed their appreciation for the skills and knowledge acquired during the 20-week course at the military college.

"Meeting and learning alongside my fellow officers was a privilege," said Major Kayitaba. "I am confident that the skills and knowledge gained will enhance my ability to execute future assignments better than before. It was a great pleasure to meet my fellow officers, interact with them. Now everyone knows everyone."

"This course has provided me with essential knowledge and skills that I will apply in my command responsibilities. As a young captain, I feel privileged as a young captain to have participated in the course, I am thankful to RDF."
