Ally Soudy is a Rwandan entertainer who by all means has an awesome talent in the true sense of the word. Sunday Times’ Bryan Kimenyi met him at Maurix Music studio where he was recording his new hit ‘Ni kicheko’. He gave us his life story.
Ally Soudy is a Rwandan entertainer who by all means has an awesome talent in the true sense of the word. Sunday Times’ Bryan Kimenyi met him at Maurix Music studio where he was recording his new hit ‘Ni kicheko’. He gave us his life story.
Ally Soudy is an up and coming Rwandan musician, whose entertainment story begun with the group Testament, of which he was the lead singer. That was around the year 2006.
However, individually, Ally Soudy has already built a sizeable fan base and a reputation of working a crowd, dancing and singing in a way particular to professional entertainers.
Prominent of his songs are tracks like; 25 years and kuki, though others like Lea, ‘umunsi ku munsi’ and ‘Inyangaguhanwa’.
Ally Soudy is also a model, radio presenter and event organizer, to mention but a few.
Apart from music and entertainment, he is a fourth year student in International Economics at the National University of Rwanda.
‘I’m very happy to be finishing with my school, because I will now get the time to settle and do some thing about my future in the entertainment industry.”
While at the NUR, with the help of colleagues from the Campus owned Radio Salus, they began "Ikirezi Group” that organized Rwanda’s Premier Music Awards- Salax Music Awards.
He says, "our aim was to showcase the progress Rwandan musicians have made in the last few years, and also recognize their hard work”
Despite his success on Radio Salus (presented Salus Relax) he has no intentions of working there in the future because "Kigali is the place to be for any local entertainer”
Asked why he is found of singing in Swahili, the R&B musician says "early in life, I got inspired by Kenyan and Tanzanian Musician like Professor Jay and Redsan.
I think I also find it easy to sing in Swahili because it’s a language spoken across the region”
As one of the people who have seen the evolution of Rwandan music, he thinks it has improved, due to the fact that Rwandese and radio stations across the country have come to appreciate them unlike before.
He adds that, ‘I think this is a call up to my fellow musicians to try and improve what they do, because the future is promising’
Ally Soudy’s life however has been directed by the philosophy that, everything is possible if we are patient!
