Residents urged on security

Residents of Kimicanga, a Kigali suburb have been urged to take precautionary measures to rid the area of criminals. The call was made during an emergency security meeting called after one resident Zacharie Ngabonziza was stabbed to death, with six people being injured in the incident.

Residents of Kimicanga, a Kigali suburb have been urged to take precautionary measures to rid the area of criminals.

The call was made during an emergency security meeting called after one resident Zacharie Ngabonziza was stabbed to death, with six people being injured in the incident.

Gasabo District Police Commander, Bosco Rangira revealed that the police has placed a ban on some activities that pose a security threat.

"We are to put in place extra-ordinary and effective security measures to curb down the wrong practices, some of you engage in to destabilize the area,” Rangira told the residents.

Some of the crimes cited by the residents include rampant sale of illicit drugs and liquor.

It also emerged during the meeting that these activities are carried out during working hours.

The Mayor of Gasabo, Nyinawagaga Claudine, warned the residents against crime.    

"Time has come for us to work together so as to eliminate the wrong characters from the society,” she said.

The officials criticized residents for not taking up responsibilities to report such cases to the authorities.
