Rwanda U20 men’s handball team was off to a stellar debut to the intercontinental IHF Trophy, with a convincing 50-27 victory over North American champions Nicaragua on Thursday, March 13.
The African champions are among six nations competing in the tournament which will run until March 16 at the Palace of Youth and Sports in Pristina, Kosovo.
Other participating teams are Bulgaria (Europe), New Caledonia (Oceania), the United States, and Uzbekistan (Asia).
Led by captain Elyse Muhumure, Rwanda showcased their dominance from the outset, concluding the first 30-minute period with a commanding 28-10 lead over Nicaragua.
The second period saw François Xavier Ngarambe’s men continue their strong performance, adding 23 goals to secure their first victory at the competition while also giving Nicaragua a reality check ahead of their upcoming fixtures.
Rwanda will next face Uzbekistan on Friday, March 14.
