KARONGI - The High Instance Court of Karongi on Tuesday, started the trial of a 45-year old suspect who is charged with murder.

Cyprien Munyarubuga, a resident of Bwishyura Sector, was arrested last week, after being accused of killing his wife.
Prosecution alleged that Munyarubuga strangled the mother of his four children after getting intoxicated.

The suspect allegedly spent the whole evening drinking local brew with the deceased, but later after retiring home he hit her several times with a club. The woman died on the way to the hospital.

However, Munyarubuga denied the charges although he admitted to having quarrelled with the deceased.

"I only quarrelled with my wife but I don’t remember beating her. I also want to know from the hospital post-mortem report the cause of her death,” he told a packed court room.

Court denied Munyarubuga bail as requested by prosecution, on grounds that he would interfere with investigations.

The accused had previously served an 8 year jail sentence for Genocide.
