The one dollar campaign aimed at pooling resources together for construction of shelter facilities for hundreds of homeless orphans has reached pledges worth Rwf 1 billion.

The one billion mark was attained after employees of the Automobile Guarantee Fund donated Rwf 540,000 to the Campaign that kicked off in April this year.

A statement from the automobile fund indicated that every employee of the fund contributed 10 percent of their salaries to the campaign.

Several private companies, public institutions, civil society organisations and individuals from diaspora have contributed to this campaign which targets Rwf 1.5 billion.

The money is meant to build hostels for Genocide orphans in schools.

The proposed hostel which will be constructed at Kagugu in Kigali is expected to accommodate about 600 orphans.
