• RDF choppers airlift critically injured

NYAGATARE - Two people died on the spot and fourteen others were seriously injured in a road accident that occurred yesterday, along the Karangazi- Kagitumba high way.

According to eye witnesses, a minibus registration number RAB390 belonging to SOTRA tours collided with a Ugandan registered saloon car.

According to Nyagatare police, the two vehicles were all traveling at high speed.

Police confirmed one of the dead as Jonas Muhozi while the other could not be identified by press time.

However, another eye witness who talked to The New Times said the second one was only identified as Saad.

The injured were rushed to Nyagatare hospital and later those in critical conditions were airlifted by Rwanda Defence Force helicopters to Kigali hospitals.

According to Jean Nepomscene Hakizamungu, a medic at Nyagatare hospital, they tried to provide first aid but nothing much could be done due to the critical condition the patients were in.

Another source told The New Times that both vehicles were carrying people heading to Kagitumba border for burial of an unidentified student who had been killed in a motor accident a day before.
