Gacaca judges acquire entrepreneurship skills

MUSANZE – Over 100 leaders of cooperatives for Gacaca judges in Musanze District have received training to enable them manage income generating projects.

The 15 cooperatives grouped under an umbrella association  known as Ukuri are engaged currently in agriculture and related vocational activities.

Consequently having grouped themselves under a formal setting Ukuri has received Rwf 33 Million  boost from the national jurisdiction of Gacaca courts.

Ukuri coordinator , Shakira Niyiteka, says the cooperative society is expecting to rake in Rwf 5Million as  profits by the end of this year.

"Our calling as rural folks is hinged on our ability to work in groups while being able to undertake various vocational activities to spur our own empowerment ,” she said.

Niyiteka added that the training has improved members’ capacity to organise, plan and budget for their funds.
In Muko sector, the cooperative harvested 20 tonnes of Irish potatoes in the last season.

Meanwhile, officials disclosed that the local Gacaca has only five cases in category one and two that are pending within Musanze district, before closing business by the end of this month.
